This poem remembers times when young children were seen and not heard and perhaps Sunday was a time to play…after church of course.
Gracie tip toes to her room
Up the stairs and out of the gloom
Sunday is a special day
This surely means a toy to play
Opening the door, she cant wait to see
Bringing out a toy she squeals with glee
Her elephant her precious toy
This is the one that brings her joy
Holding it close and very tight
How she wishes with all her might
Why cant Sunday be every day
When she can do nothing but play
Telling stories singing songs and rhymes
The day moves on
Nanny comes in and shakes her head
Gracie put away that toy its time for bed
Praying hard for next Sunday to come
When she can have yet more fun
Gracie kneels at her bed
A good little elephant it has to be said
